A day lasts 86400 seconds, or 100000 times 0,864. The 5-digit clock above counts from 0 to 99999. One tick takes only 0,864 seconds. It will display "00000" at 12:00:00 and "50000" at 00:00:00 (midnight), because the Julian day begins at 12 noon. To convert dates and times, please use the form below.

The day starts at 12:00:00.The Julian day count, which differs from the Julian calendar, was proposed by Joseph Justus Scaliger in the 16th century and named after his father, Julius Caesar Scaliger. According to the Julian calendar the count was initiated on 1st January 4713 BC, at noon. The starting point according to the Gregorian calendar is 24 November of the year 4714 BC, at noon. The Julian calendar takes 365,25 days to complete its yearly cycle, while the solar year only takes 365,2422 days. In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian calendar as a substitute for the Julian calendar.
Under certain conditions, a year will take 365,2425 days by skipping leap years. North Africa, including the Canary Islands, marks the end of the year on 13 January (14 January in 2100) to welcome the new year the following day. The Amazigh new year starts on the first day of the month Yennayer. The way the Amazigh calendar divides the year into days and months is similar to the Julian calendar. The Amazigh date is approximately 900 years ahead of the Julian calendar introduced by Julius Caesar in 46 BC, (now, 3 Oct 2976). This date is linked to the reign of the Libyan dynasty.
A tropical solar year lasts 365.2422 days. The Earth completes its orbit around the sun in 365 days, plus an approximate fraction of 0,2422. This equates to roughly a quarter of a year. After four years, the total difference adds up to about 0,9688. Nonetheless, in our calendar system, an entire day is included every four years to lengthen the month of February.
Over four centuries, the difference will be (400 ÷ 4) x 0,9688. There are only 97 leap years, not 100. It is therefore imperative to imagine how to ignore 3 leap years. The correction has been made by adjusting the centenary years. A centennial year is a leap year if it is perfectly divisible by 400 (e.g. 2400). The years 2100, 2200 and 2300 will not be leap years.
97 x 366 + 303 x 365 400
= 365,2425
